How It Works A tuned spring steel strip is set in resonant vibration by an a.c. powered coil. Monofilament string attached to the end of the spring is tensioned by slotted wieghts anging ovewr a pulley at the end of the bench. By adjusting the tension, the string can be tuned to observe different resonance modes, and the velocity of the waves on the string can then be found by measuring the distance between nodes for the various modes. Further experiments on string waves can be performed by varying the string's vibration length and by using strings of different masses. Includes operation and experiment manual.
